Production Manager

Summary of Functions

The Production Manager’s mission within Cortex is to manage the outsourced production capabilities within Cortex and maintain design integrity throughout the stages of production. The Production Manager is also accountable for prototype assembly and performing physical design validation. This is a leadership role with a high degree of responsibility, and is a position of accountability for the financial well-being and customer satisfaction for the company.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage long-term relationships with clients and vendors
  • Maintain and update the Approved Vendor List
  • Prepare Requests for Quotation documentation packages for vendors
  • Handle vendor requests, questions, and feedback as needed
  • Prepare client quotes with a clear understanding of target margins and business needs, seeking help and guidance where necessary
  • Arrange shipping and receiving of project materials
  • Create the plan and perform engineering design validation in cooperation with the engineering staff according to the applicable Product Requirements Document
  • Research and implement new software or machine purchase recommendations
  • Assist with upkeep of ISO 9001 Company Policies, Work Instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Provide production related KPIs for the president and directors
  • Coordinate with Operations Manager on incoming POs, outgoing POs, invoices, quotes and bills as they relate to production orders
  • Advocate for optimizing the office, customer materials, tools, and equipment
  • Provide production KPIs and targets to the management team with respect to clients, projects and resources as required
  • Manage and complete prototype assembly, utilizing external resources when necessary (for example circuit board SMT assembly would typically be outsourced)
  • Manage and document projects according to best practices
  • Keep accurate records of time spent on projects
  • Promote good office culture, being generally helpful and supportive where opportunity may present itself

Core Competencies

Minimum Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks
  • 2+ year’s experience in electromechanical product manufacturing
  • 5+ years’ experience in a production environment

Preferred Competencies

  • Fluency in Mandarin
  • Past production experience in a product design or similar consultancy
  • Project management experience
  • Freehand sketching capabilities (either digital or traditional tools)
  • Knowledge of quality & safety standards and systems; ISO13485, ISO9001, UL, CSA, FCC, CE

Organizational Relationships

  • Reports to the CEO/President
  • Works directly with the other Department Directors and Managers
  • Production staff report directly to this position
