We’re looking for a new Embedded Design Engineer! Does this sound like you?
Position Summary: We are looking to fill an immediate role for an experienced intermediate or senior engineer to supercharge our embedded design department. In order to qualify, you must know how to take a set of requirements all the way from verbal description to functional plan documentation, component selection, and layout and programming of a functional PCB. You should be highly proficient at systems and program architecture planning, schematic design, PCB layout, and most importantly firmware development. You must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Science in order to qualify, and have the ability to work in Canada. Applicants in the GTA are preferred.
What You Will Do: While at Cortex, you will be involved in developing human-centred consumer medical and life science products that make a difference in people’s lives. Working with the industrial design and mechanical engineering teams, alongside your fellow engineers in the embedded systems department, you will be asked to take a set of functional requirements and plan the workflow for accomplishing those deliverables, always keeping the user of the system front and centre in your mind.
You will use Slack, Google Docs, Zoom and our project management software Wrike in order to stay connected and coordinated with the team during the day.
This is a team environment and you will be joining the other engineers already on the team. Your mission is to amplify the team and the deliverables that can be achieved. If you have previous experience leading an embedded systems development or have demonstrated other leadership skills within a team environment that will be considered favourably over other applicants.
The products we design must meet all regulatory requirements for submission to medical regulatory bodies. A familiarity or experience with regulatory standards and the process for testing and approvals under IEC-60601-1 and ISO-13485 design controls is heavily preferred.

Work Culture: You may be the kind of person who automates their home for fun, builds your own furniture, or otherwise has a passion for creation outside of work. You are experienced in problem solving, creative design, thinking fast, eating interesting food (we are in Parkdale!). You are a passionate person, you’re enthusiastic, and like working as a team towards a common goal. You do not need your ego fed, but have the hard skills to impress us with your modesty. You listen before speaking, you know how to make eye contact, and there is a glint in your eye when you describe your work and skills. You are energized by taking on new challenges and launching into unfamiliar territory.
BUT you’re also not the type to complain or be disappointed when the work is monotonous or requires attention to detail. You can deal and manage distraction while working and can focus on a given task or set of tasks for a long period of time to get the work done, on budget, on schedule.
If you crave a corporate environment with multiple levels of management, or if you don’t like being at the center of key deliverables for intelligent and demanding clients, this might not be the role for you.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced environment with amazing projects and room to grow into a key role for us as a company and help us go after bigger and better business, you’re on.
