Assembly Technician

Summary of Functions

The Assembly Technician’s mission within Cortex is to provide prototype assembly, offer design feedback for the Design, Mechanical Engineering, and Embedded Systems departments, and perform physical part validation.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand and execute on engineering design validation processes in cooperation the engineering staff according to Product Requirements Document
  • Advocate for optimizing the office, customer materials, tools, and equipment
  • Manage and complete prototype assembly, utilizing external resources when necessary (for example circuit board SMT assembly would typically be outsourced)
  • Manage and document projects according to best practices
  • Perform diagnostic/alignment/acceptance tests of devices and circuits with appropriate test equipment and tools when provided with applicable procedures
  • Operate general test instrumentation (multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.) for electronics and electrical testing in a laboratory
  • Follow instructions, procedures, and drawings to assemble electrical and mechanical parts into a complete device or product with minimal supervision
  • Keep accurate records of time spent on projects
  • Promote good office culture, being generally helpful and supportive where opportunity may present itself

Core Competencies

Minimum Competencies

  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ year’s previous production experience
  • Self motivated and analytical
  • Experience working cooperatively in a team
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and skills
  • Experience using common and specialized hand tools (torque wrench, coaxial cable/connector crimping tools, etc.) and fixtures
  • Experience using Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Google Docs

Preferred Competencies

  • Technical certificate/diploma
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks
  • Past production experience in a product design or similar consultancy
  • project management experience
  • Knowledge of quality & safety standards and systems; ISO13485, ISO9001, UL, CSA, FCC, CE
  • Experience assembling complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Electronics soldering skills
  • Knowledge of electronics/electrical components/parts
  • Freehand sketching capabilities (either digital or traditional tools)

Organizational Relationships

  • Reports to the Production Manager
  • Works alongside the other department staff on common project goals
