We now offer in-house rapid prototyping

We have purchased a 3D printer to perform rapid prototyping; we can now offer extremely quick turn-arounds on custom parts as well as increase the speed at which we can evaluate our design work. It allows us to iterate faster than ever before!

Our new rapid prototyping machine

The models are built in an ABS-like material, and offer best-in-class part resolution and accuracy. The part strength and accuracy far exceeds both SLA and FDM printers. Surface finish even on gently curving surfaces is excellent, and we can build walls as thin as 0.2MM that rivals the strength of an injection-molded part.

If you have any questions or would like a quote on building some of your own parts, please send your enquiry in to info@cortex-design.com. We are offering extremely competitive rates on builds. Provide us your CAD models by 4:30p and provided it fits on our queue, we can deliver you built parts for next day.

This week we have been in Dongguan, China visiting our production facility. We have four projects up and running with tooling this week on a variety of machines. UL fire-rated resins and Pantone colour matching on all parts. The quality of parts is amazing!

This past Tuesday, we attended the Design Research mixer, hosted by Pivot Design Group. We listened to Luigi Ferrara, the director of the School of Design and Institute Without Boundaries at George Brown College, and Ian Chalmers, president of Pivot Design Group.

Cortex Design Sponsors Bike MS Race

Cortex Design recently sponsored the Bike MS race to help raise funds for multiple sclerosis. The event was a 150 mile ride based out of Camp Kern just North of Cincinnati. One of our clients – the United States Playing Card Company – put together a team of 50 people called “Team Bicycle”, cleverly using the playing card Bicycle brand as the inspiration for their team. In total the Team raised $41,771 for MS. We are amazed by their accomplishment! The team photo is shown below. The event included close to 1,000 cyclists who raised more than $600,000 to date!
